What each line does
- [Date of this letter]
- Your notice runs from this date, so keep a copy that shows it.
- To: [Employer's name]
- Address it to the company that employs you, as named on your contract.
- Subject: Resignation of [Your full name]
- A plain subject line makes the letter easy to find later.
- Dear Sir or Madam,
- A neutral greeting works when you do not know who will log it.
- I am resigning from my role at [Employer's name].
- One clear sentence. A resignation that hedges invites argument about whether you resigned at all.
- I am giving you notice in writing under Article 49 of Law No. 14 of 2004.
- Notice is 1 month in your first 2 years of work and 2 months after (Art. 49). Enter your start date to put the right one in the letter.
- Before my last day I will hand my work over and give back anything that belongs to the company.
- It shows you mean to leave cleanly, which helps when you ask for your final pay.
- Please pay everything owed to me on leaving, including any gratuity due, by the end of the working day after my contract ends, as Article 67 requires.
- Your employer must pay by the end of the next working day after the contract ends (Art. 67).
- Please confirm in writing that you received this letter.
- Proof of the date you gave notice is your best protection if dates are disputed later.
- Yours faithfully, [Your full name]
- Sign the printed copy as well, and keep one for yourself.
With a start date, the letter adds the day you joined. With a last working day, it names it, and asks for written agreement if it comes before the notice ends.
The notice rule behind it
Article 49 of Law No. 14 of 2004, as amended, lets either side end the contract after probation with written notice.
The notice is 1 month in the first and second year of work, and 2 months after. Skipping it costs the basic wage for the notice.
On probation, Article 39 applies instead: 1 month to move to another employer, or the agreed notice up to 2 months to leave Qatar.
Once the letter is in
- Hand it over and ask for a dated receipt.
- Your employer pays everything by the end of the next working day after your contract ends (Art. 67).
- You have 1 year from the end of the contract to bring a claim (Art. 10).
