How much notice do I give when I resign in Oman?
30 days in writing if you are paid monthly, and 15 days if not, unless your contract sets longer (Art. 38). On probation it is at least 7 days (Art. 37).

What to ask HR
- Does my contract set a longer notice period?
- Will you agree to an earlier last day, in writing?
Open-ended contracts
Either side may end an open-ended contract for a legitimate reason, with written notice before the end date (Art. 38):
- Paid a monthly wage: 30 days.
- Paid any other way: 15 days.
- If your contract agrees a longer period, that one applies.
Check your contract first, because a longer period there overrides the minimum.
Give it in writing
Date the letter and hand it in, or use the Ministry of Labour's online service for resignation requests.
Keep a copy that shows the date. Your notice runs from it.
Article 38 speaks of a legitimate reason. A short, plain reason in your letter helps, such as taking up a new job.
If you skip the notice
Whoever skips the notice pays the other side compensation. It equals the notice period, or the part left, on your final gross wage (Art. 38).
Ask your employer whether it will agree to an earlier last day. Get the answer in writing.
Fixed-term contracts
A fixed-term contract must state the notice either side gives if it does not want to renew. Your employer's notice must be at least 1 month (Art. 36).
Ask the Ministry of Labour before you end a fixed-term contract early.
Probation
Probation lasts up to 3 months if you are paid monthly, or 2 months if not. It can be used only once (Art. 37).
To end the contract during probation, either side gives 7 days' notice or more.
Leaving without notice
Article 41 lets you leave without notice and keep all your rights, gratuity included, in listed cases. Examples are wages unpaid for more than 2 months running, an assault and serious danger.
Your gratuity and final pay
Resigning does not cut your gratuity (Art. 61). Each year since 31 July 2023 earns at least one month's basic wage. Ask the Ministry of Labour at what rate years before 31 July 2023 are paid.
Your employer must pay everything as soon as the job ends (Art. 91). If you walk out on your own, it has up to 7 days.
Not paid? Apply to the Ministry of Labour first. You have 1 year from the day each right fell due to claim it (Art. 9).
